FINAL BLOG! (due Wednesday)

This year in English class we did some pretty CRAZY activities.

As always, I like to get some feedback on some of the activities we completed this year!

What did you think of the TESTS? PROJECTS? FLIPGRID? BLOGS?

What was your overall feeling towards coming to English class?

What recommendations for improvements do you have?

What should I definitely do again?

Explain.

THANKS FOR A GREAT SCHOOL YEAR OF BLOGGING.
I THOROUGHLY ENJOYED READING ALL YOUR POSTS AND YOUR COMMENTS!

  1. This year I enjoyed English class, I wanted to go to English Class (most of the time). The class did different things than the other classes I had such as blogs, odd tests and challenging projects which I enjoyed this style of teaching over the traditional style. Here is a few of my recommendations are that the blogs are a bit too open and not emphasized enough which makes people not want to do it. The tests are too luck based such as the breakout test, you needed to know the book but a large portion was luck. You should do the diverse and challenging projects again because they were fun.

  2. In my opinion, I think that my first english class of high school couldn’t be better. I definitely didn’t agree with all the projects because like I said many times before, they were so different from the normal english projects. Even though that’s said, I think that you should definitely continue doing projects like the ones that we did because it challenges us to do something we haven’t done before. I look forward to english everyday because I feel really welcome there and there’s a lot of positivity. Honestly, I don’t really have any complaints or suggestions for improvement. I think you should continue with what you’re doing right now!

  4. Wow, grade 7 flew by! This was by far my favorite class! This year we did so many different projects, tests. I loved all the projects we did, they were all so fun to do, especially the CAKE PROJECT!! That was so much fun and tasty! I loved all the tests we did, except for the poem one, that one was stressful and a pain. I think you should definitely keep on assigning the cake project. I’m pretty sad that I have to have a boring english teacher next year… Please think about teaching grade 8 next year.

  5. I think that the blogs where really fun so as all the other activities. My overall feeling about English was joy. My one recommendation is to keep it going because this was my best class I've ever had. I think you should keep the Ulysses test, Alice presentation and the cake. Everyone was so exited for this. Thanks for giving me a fun year.

  6. I first want to start off with saying that you should DEFINITELY keep the Cake Project as well as the Alice in Wonderland presentations! Alice in Wonderland was a great way to end the year because it had projects that were fun! The blogs were also pretty fun as well! I loved how we all get to express our feelings/thoughts on different topics you gave us. I do recommend that you don't put that many "free choice" blogs because I would sit there for 15 minutes wondering about what I should write. On the other hand, when you gave us blogs that had a topic, it was much easier for me to do my blog in the sense that I won't sit there for a while wondering what I will write. The tests were unique which made them the most fun tests! The test you should keep is the Adventures of Ulysses test because it was a different way of doing things, you got to experience something new and it's probably the only test you'll do that won't involve too much writing. Yes, there are tests with no writing, but none like this one. The projects were just as fun because like any other project, you get to be creative in your own way! English class was my favorite class this year! I'm so sad that I will have a boring teacher that will make us do boring things. I really do hope that I will get Mr. Katz in grade 9/sec. 3. I can't believe that grade 7/sec.1 is already coming to an end :(

  7. Through the year, English class has been my favourite class to come to. The feeling when you walk into the class is comforting. You don’t feel shy or scared (except for the crazy tests) and we usually have a great time! Mr.Katz always finds the best activities. And even if it is a bad activity... like a test, he always finds a way to make it fun. I think that next year he should continue doing the rap battle since it was really fun to work on and it gave us all a great laugh. I think that the blogs were a great idea since it replaced boring homework and we always got to write about different subjects not just the same boring one over and over again. I think that overall it has been a great year of English class!

  8. I think that english class was by far the most fun class i've ever had. The tests were a bit annoying by challenging and fun at the same time. All the projects we did i found fun and i liked the style of them. I like the idea of blogs because it's kind of like reflecting on what you did and you get to share your stories and thoughts to everyone in the class! I feel that whenever i would go into english class i wouldn't be worried about anything instead of french class because she always gives homework. I also really liked that there was never homework except for blogs and projects. I liked the books we read because they were interesting and fun to read. Even the first class of english i knew i would enjoy the class so much because mr.katz seemed like a nice and funny teacher. Everything got even better though because he would let us choose our own groups and he wasn't very strict. my recommendations that i have is that you give a bit more time for the tests because near the end we were worried we couldn't finish so we ended up putting some random stuff. I would definitely recommend to keep the cake project because it was very fun to eat the cake and make it(even though me and Noah jon's tasted like crap because it was burnt to a crisp. Overall this was my favorite class and it made my school days so much better!

  9. I liked all the tests we did i like how they are so different from other classes because it’s more fun than just writing the answers on a paper. I always enjoyed coming to you class because i new we would probably we doing something fun. My reaction to seeing English on my schedule was “Yay!” every time. I think you should continue doing blogs and the tests like you did.

  10. I loved English class it was my favorite class that I had this year. I think that the Cake project was fun but it was stressful since I barely knew how to make a cake. I think the Outsiders test was not a good idea because it was super hard to make all sorts of lines with a certain number of syllables in each of them. The Odessey test was super fun because it was super different than your typical test where you sit there and do nothing but write in complete silence, you had to work in a group and think outside the box. #LastBlog

I liked all the tests we did i like how they are so different from other classes because it’s more fun than just writing the answers on a paper. I just didn't like the Alice in Wonderland project probably cause I did bad on it but also since we were the fist group to go.

  12. I think that English class was for sure the best class out of them all. I liked how much fun it was and how loose everything is. I think the tests were fun and different but difficult and complicated. But overall English was really fun. The projects we had were really big and crazy but they were fun. I never thought I would have a "scavenger hunt" kind of thing as a test and a cake project but I'm kind of glad I did. But I really liked English class.

  13. I think any assignment, project or test we’ve done in English class this year was fun. A few of them were difficult to complete, like basically all of the tests, but it’s really relieving when you put in the effort to finish and get a good grade. Each time we did anything in this class, it was always different and interesting. My overall thoughts of this class is that it is probably my favorite class i’ll ever have. I don’t really have any suggestions. I think you should do everything again :)

  14. My favorite project in class was the cake project. Preparing for it was a lot of fun. I really liked making it and eating it all day. I really liked seeing all the different cakes and the different aspects of each cake. I can't wait to come back next year and eat the other sec ones cakes. I know you probably will but you should definitely do the cake project again next year.

  15. My favorite thing that we did were the project. My favorite project was the cake project because who doesn't like cake. My least favorite thing that we did were the flipgrids. I didn't like making the videos because I don't like to see myself on camera. I like doing blogs because it is a different way to state your opinion. One thing that I didn't like about the blogs where the free choice blogs because it takes a while to come up with an original idea. I am sad that next year we are going to have to do normal, boring tests. Even though some of them were hard, they were fun and original. I always feel happy and joyful when I think that I am going to English class because Mr. Katz makes everything more fun. You should keep doing the cake project because it was so much fun to try all the different cakes. I don't have any recommendations/improvements because I thought that this English class was perfect compared to the other ones.

  16. This is probably the best english class I’ve ever had… No joke. Not only did this class have an EXCELLENT teacher but it was never boring and so creative. The homework was balanced and we were never overloaded with things to do. My favorite part of this year was DEFINITELY the cake project. Even though I felt sick after, those cakes were worth it! The Alice chapters that were doing now is also interesting because most of us have never read the book and we are challenged to complete the task without knowing what is happening throughout the book. Overall, I had the best of times this year in this class!
    Thank you Mr. Katz!

  17. The year has gone by so fast! I have a lot of memorable times this year. A majority of the fun stuff comes from English class. I think I speak for everyone when I say that this was the best class by far. The projects were so fun! You should definitely keep them. My favorite project was The Outsiders project. Not only was it fun and enjoyable but the book was also amazing. One of my favorite ones now! The flip grids were really annoying and so were the FREE CHOICE blogs. The other blogs were fine. The cake project was also really fun but really stressful because I knew how to make cake but not decorate it. But in the end it was tasty and unique. I'm really going to miss this years English class. Hopefully I have you again! =)

  18. The year went by pretty quick, but, you know what they say, time flies when you're doing fun English projects! This year has been super fun but if I had to choose my favourite project it would be the movie project. It was fun making a trailer with my friends and seeing it all work out right. All in all I have had a great year and I'm happy I was able to be in this class!

  19. Well this year has been quit different than what I had expected
For an English class but in a good way .So many things we did like after school projects or the mock trial and some creative tests too.I really think this year has been one that I can't really forget yes because it's my first year of high school but second because I don't think there is going to be a other teacher like mr Katz and if there is I'll make sure to tell. But back to what I was saying it has been a really fun and crazy year and I think it just made my experience even better , although there was problems with my cake project it was probably and always will be my favourite project just saying other teachers :).

  20. This year was quite unique. I think the tests were fun ( except for the Breakout Test). I found the Breakout Test very stressful. The projects were fun. I really enjoyed the mock trial. There were quite a few problems with the cake project since we had to workout a way to get the cake from our house to school. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Epic Rap Battle. My partner wasn’t there most of the time and I’m not into that kind of music. It was quite a challenge to do it from the POV of a character from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Another thing I didn’t really enjoy was flip grid. I found it really awkward talking to a screen with no one to talk to. That and the fact that someone always walked in on me recording a response. I really enjoyed the blogs. It gave me a platform to talk about my opinion on different topics.

I recommend doing more projects like the Outsiders project; where we were able to choose from different ones to do.

During the school year, I looked forward to coming to English class. I was a fun and relaxed environment that I really enjoyed.

You should definitely do the outsiders project, the sistema test and blogs again.

  21. This year I have done so much in English class and I feel like I really improved my English even if I had so much fun and we explored so many new things. Your an awesome teacher so you don’t really have to change anything. Just give us more time on those huge test you give us. This was one of my favourite classes.

  22. This year one of my favorite classes was English. That does not mean it was the easiest but the way Mr. Katz introduced new material and the types of tests and projects we had challenged us and made learning the material fun. I loved the epic rap battle because I like rap music, the mock trial, the sistema test, coding because it was the first time I was introduced to this as well as the blogs because it was a different way of getting to express myself and my opinions. The cake project although stressful, because I am not a baker and it is particularly difficult to accomplish if you are a perfectionist, was actually more fun than I thought it would be. The most stressful activity however, was the Ulysses test because there was a lot of pressure to complete it. I loved coming to English class and looked forward to it everyday. Thanks you Mr. Katz for making grade 7 so much fun and teaching me to think out of the box. #Mr.KatzRocks

  23. i love this years English class because we have plenty of fun instead of dooing interesting projects and tests instead of dooing boring essays and annoying projects i also love blogs instead of dooing homework i also like the way we read books and mr kats makes sure we all understand everything in all the books thank you wso much for this year

  24. Every time I look back on what i’ve done during the year a big part of it are the super strange things that i’ve done in english class. From the tests, to the mock trial i’ve never experienced anything like it. Who would have thought that in my sec 1 year i’d be doing scavenger hunts and writing really complicating poems. I’ve learn a lot from this class. One simple thing that I always manage to mess up are actually doing these blogs every week. I constantly forget about them and it’s really annoying but other than that this class has been one of my favourite classes the entire year.
